Employment as our goal
There are Abilities inside Disabilities
First National Disability Employment Awareness Month in Chinese American Community
Between October and November 2023, we hosted the first ever Disability Employment Awareness Month in Chinese American communities in the US. We invited 6 families and 1 self-advocate, each bringing forth their unique stories and insights into achieving successful employment.
Breaking Barriers
Language barriers and social isolation stand as the most significant obstacles to employment within our community. To address these challenges, we provide bilingual webinars and personalized guidance, designed to bridge these gaps and empower individuals.
Building Skills
For young people with IDD to achieve successful employment, it is crucial to develop a broad range of skills. We are dedicated to assisting these young individuals and their families in cultivating these skills, and integrate them into vocational skills and community involvement.
Resources Connected
One of our primary goals is to connect resources to Asian communities. From educational resources to employment opportunities. We have forming partnership with some prominent companies. We are proud that we have sent one of our young men to work at Amazon Warehouse, where he has been working for more than one year now!
FCEE (Family and Community Efforts to Employment) is Project Ready‘s program and vision. We believe everyone with IDD has the right to seek employment that aligns with their desires and capacities. It is our collective responsibility as families and communities to spearhead this journey.
Our goal is to make the doors of employment open wider, ensuring that more people with IDD have the opportunity to contribute to and thrive in the workforce.
Education and Advocacy
We advocate for people with IDD to have equal rights accessing vocational training and employment opportunities.
We empower our young people and their families by equipping them with knowledge, skills and courage.
Breaking Barriers
Language barriers and social isolation emerge as big obstacles in securing employment for Asian immigrant children. Recognizing these challenges, we provide bilingual support and guidance to help them navigate the complex systems, ensuring they have the tools and confidence needed to overcome these obstacles.
Skills Building
We believe that before our young people with IDD are ready to enter workforce, they need to receive training on many skills: communication, transportation, independent living and vocational skills. All those skill training need to start early and last consistently into adulthood.
Resources Connected
We are forming partnership with some prominent corporations. We are also collaborating with local organizations and small business to create opportunities for our young people.
There are many ways to get involved.
